The Weird Side of Famous Writers

We all have our idiosyncrasies when we sit down to write. We must have our tea in the right mug, or certain music playing or our lucky four-leaf clover hanging from the laptop screen. Many famous writers had these foibles too. Have a look at the infographic below, supplied by Donna Norton of Custom Writing, – it might make you feel less weird! My favourite is Dan Brown (scroll down to the bottom – apparently he likes hanging upside down!) Do any of you do anything stranger than what’s listed here?!

Many thanks to Donna Norton for supplying the above infographic. There’s more available on the Custom Writing Website.

I suspect a writer who isn’t a little weird in some way is the exception – and therefore weirdest of all.

You’re right, Patsy, after all sitting alone for hours on end working on something that might be rejected 100 times is hardly the action of a sane person!

I must be very dull. I don’t do anything strange – unless my family think otherwise, of course.

You could be the exception that breaks the rule, or maybe we should grill your family, Julia!

I’m with Lewis Carroll. I love purple ink for originality in handwriting, but couldn’t imagine standing to write. I write sitting in an armchair with an elevated tray to hold my laptop. Thus, I’m able t keep my wife company.

I’m glad you’re still practising the dying art of handwriting, Martin (even if it is in purple ink!) and it is nice for both of you if you can write alongside your wife. I prefer to be alone (or amongst strangers in a coffee shop) to write – otherwise I feel the need to talk and be sociable.

Just shows what an unsociable, grumpy old man, I am! Or, my wife’s a saint?
