Writing the Fiction E-Book Series

A couple of weeks ago I told you about a Guest Posting contest organised by Nick Daws.

Well, I took my own advice, entered – and won!

My guest post was about the benefits of writing a fiction e-book series and some tips on how to go about it. The post is now available to read in full on Nick’s blog.

And I’d like to congratulate Sharon Boothroyd, who is a follower of this blog, she also entered and was one of the runners-up. Her post too will appear on Nick’s high-traffic blog.

The Page is Printed Creative Writing Prize
Now here’s an unusual writing competition based around a single A4 page. The website says:
“Submissions are invited in any genre, it could be a love letter, a short story, a poem, a court summons or a shopping list … the only rule is that your entry must be contained on one side of A4.”
Closing date is 1st may 2014. There are first, second and third prizes of £200, £100 and £50. Entry fee is £4 or three for £10.

Congratulations again on winning my guest posting contest, Sally (and congrats to runner-up Sharon as well).

Your article was a worthy winner. I would just comment, though, that despite the fact that my contest was free to enter and had cash prizes, only around a dozen people bothered to submit an entry.

So it really is well worth entering writing contests, as your chances of wining could actually be a lot better than you think!

  Thanks for pointing that out, Nick. It’s easy to be put off entering a competition because there’s a little voice in our heads saying, “don’t bother, it’s a waste of time because you’ll never win.” We have to learn to switch off that voice and go for it!

This was great Sally. I don’t have an e-book reader yet, though I have managed to buy a novel onto my iPhone. Can I get the Museum of Fractured Lives on my iPhone?

  Hilary, you can download a free Kindle app from Amazon to any smart phone (or laptop/PC or other device). This will enable you to read Kindle books, like the Museum of Fractured Lives on the iPhone. I haven’t yet uploaded any of my books to the Apple store – not sure how to do it but it’s a project for the future!

    Hmm, I’m holding out on the Kindle as I’d rather have an iPad and I’m trying hard not to be owned by Amazon – but I may give in on my phone.
